LAUSANNE
is situated on Lake Geneva, in the French-speaking region of Vaud, Switzerland. This hilly old city has medieval, shop-lined streets and a 12th-century gothic cathedral with ornate facade.
There is a flourishing modern art scene with the MCBA and mudac a highlight. Of particular note currently, is the first solo exhibition dedicated to the American artist Ted Joans, whose work brings together influences from surrealism and jazz to black power and Pan-Africanism.
Founded in 1883 as the 'English Lawn Tennis Club', Montchoisi TC is the oldest tennis club in Switzerland. With seven clay courts and an excellent restaurant, it remains a community focussed institution surrounded by private dwellings, a public ice skating rink and neighbouring Olympic Committee headquarters and museum. According to installation manager Leo David, it is also the birthplace of Lolette Payot, a flag-bearer of Swiss tennis.
Nearby club Stade-Lausanne is home to no fewer than 18 courts and further afield and worth a visit is Montreux which hosts the WTA125 open event.
